The City
According to conventional wisdom, in order to capture a city, it must be surrounded. All exits and entrances must be seized. The city’s spirit must be broken. It must be overpowered through a massive display of offensive assets and convinced it cannot win. Hope is destroyed and the city will fall. Modern warfare has dictated this best practice.
History aside, there is always an alternative to conventional wisdom.
In order to truly capture a city, you must first capture the heart of its people. You must embody hope, not despair. You must empower optimism, not intimidation. You must instill strength, not weakness. You must proliferate freedom, not restrictions. You must accelerate possibility, not implausibility. You must elevate.
By doing this, you will not be feared. You will be celebrated. The citizens will invite you inside the city walls. They will greet you with open arms. To capture a city, you must first capture the heart of its people. Only then can you call the city yours.
